Synopsis:
Sondheim explores the westernization of Japan in the late 1800s from a Japanese perspective. From the striking opening "In the middle of the world we float" to the child's report of secret treaty talks "Someone in a Tree," and the bittersweet "Bowler Hat," this musical is a treat for eyes and ears.
