Article from http://www.nationalbroadwayawards.com Thanks to Dan for this information! Paolo Montalban has been nominated for Best Actor in a Musical as part of the first annual National Broadway Theater Awards (a sort of “People’s Choice” award for touring productions), for his performance as the Prince in the touring production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Cinderella received a total of 10 nominations, including Best Song, Score, Direction, Choreography, Visual Presentation (scenic and lighting design), and Costumes. Other nominated cast members include Eartha Kitt, Deborah Gibson, and Everett Quinton. The National Broadway Theatre Awards are the first fan-selected honors for touring Broadway plays and musicals. Theatre fans across America had the chance to play a role on Broadway by voting for their favorite shows and performers. Known informally as the "Star Awards," the National Broadway Theatre Awards were developed in the fall of 2000 by the League of American Theatres and Producers, the national trade association for the Broadway industry, to celebrate excellence in touring Broadway - and give the public a chance to "play favorites" by voting on the best of touring Broadway in 10 categories. Voting took place this spring by both e-mail and snail mail. Almost 15,000 theatre fans registered to vote. The winners will be announced at a gala event in New York's Theatre District on May 21 (ed note: Paolo's birthday).
