Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and New Line Television
Films' Producer Larry Kasanoff Set to Executive Produce the Series

December 17,1997 -- A one-hour, weekly action series based on the highly successful "Mortal Kombat" franchise will debut in national syndication in fall 1998 as a joint venture between New Line Television (which will produce the series with Larry Kasanoff and his Threshold Entertainment) and Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution (which will distribute and market the series). Kasanoff will serve as the series' executive producer. The announcement was made today by Scott Carlin, Executive Vice President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and Robert Friedman, President, New Line Television.

The "Mortal Kombat" series represents the first combined effort between Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and New Line Television, both of which are Time Warner companies. The series will be distributed internationally by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution.

"Beyond being one of the most recognizable and engaging brands in entertainment, 'Mortal Kombat' is a dazzling visual spectacle ideally suited to stand out in the world of weekly television," said Carlin.

"We're thrilled to be extending this powerful New Line franchise into live-action television," said Friedman. "By combining our production and ancillary distribution capabilities with Warner Bros.' strength in distributing action hours, we've taken advantage of our respective strengths. In the current TV environment, it's becoming necessary to market pre-sold, highly visible properties supported by a variety of media."

The "Mortal Kombat" series will be executive produced by Kasanoff, who produced both feature films related to the property -- "Mortal Kombat," which grossed more than $70 million worldwide, and "Mortal Kombat Annihilation," which debuted as the number-one movie its opening weekend (November 21, 1997).

"'Mortal Kombat' has been an extraordinary franchise for us," said Kasanoff. "We are thrilled about the opportunity, which we have long been planning, to bring 'Mortal Kombat' to live-action television where we can explore the entire history as well as the rich and broad universe surrounding the property."

The "Mortal Kombat" series will follow the adventures of Kung Lao and his companions as they defend Earth against the forces of Outworld in Mortal Kombat -- a tournament based on honor and tradition. The series will feature exciting martial arts sequences as well as special effects by Threshold Digital Research Labs.

Threshold Entertainment has produced all of the media related to the "Mortal Kombat" franchise, which has grossed more than $4 billion worldwide. In addition to being the best-selling video game in history, "Mortal Kombat" has been translated by Threshold into a top-rated animated series, a platinum- selling CD, a sold-out, live-event tour, a successful toy line, and a number- one animated home video.
